Did you know that the average consumer must replace their devices every 2-3 years?

When you’re running a business, you don’t always have time to keep track of your computer’s birthdays. While it is important to your business security to have your devices up to date, there are ways to tell if you can hang on a little longer or if you just need to bite the bullet and make some purchases.

Here are 7 questions to ask yourself about your business computers:

  1. Is the device running slowly? If it takes forever to start up or if your programs and apps take too long to open, it not only slows productivity, but could reflect an outdated system.
  1. Do you have frequent freezing and crashing? This is a sign that the computer is unable to keep up with the program’s demands.
  1. Is your battery quick to drain? If your device dies quickly, it’s a big red flag. Most healthy devices should last most of the day on one charge. You can also check your battery’s physical properties. If it often gets overheated, that could cause the battery to malfunction or if could have incurred swelling; these are safety hazards and should be dealt with immediately.
  1. Is your storage always full? If you’re frequently running out of space, that’s a good sign that you’re due for an upgrade. Plus, finding a computer with more storage will help your team work most efficiently.
  1. Have you noticed that you’re missing out on new features that should be getting installed with updates? If so, you can bet that you need to invest in something more up to date.
  1. Are you having to pay too much in repairs? Sometimes, the cost to repair can almost equal the cost, if not exceed, to replace as older device parts can become pricier as they’re less available.
  1. Does your device support the latest software? You can consider your computer ancient if you’re unable to run new software on it. Additionally, this is a security risk for your business, as you’re unable to receive the most updated bug fixes and security patches, leaving you vulnerable to a cyberattack. A newer device running on the latest update is the safest option.
