FIRST Lego League 2018: Investing in the Future
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a robotics program for 9 to 14-year-olds which gets them excited about science, technology, and innovation, while teaching them valuable employment and life skills. Holston IT has sponsored teams in this competition for over 6 years, and we invite other businesses to join us in supporting this fun, educational program.
Below are a few highlights of last year’s season as well as information about starting a team now.
These pictures show the kids working and smiling on the robot competition mat with their robot.
The robot must complete certain missions to gain points. A sample mission is “pick up this Lego piece and move it from point A to point B.”
The robot can be programmed to use the black lines on the mat as a guide.
Besides programming robots, teams research a real-world problem, create a solution, and present their ideas to a panel of judges.

New Teams are Forming Now!
Any group of 2-10 kids, ages 9-14, can form a team. Local competitions are in November and December in Abingdon, Kingsport, and Jonesborough.
