October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Every October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! We support CISA’s efforts to promote Security Awareness and Training, as it is an under-discussed topic in reducing risk for business. CISA, the US Government’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, has a Cybersecurity Awareness Program with resources on how we can be advocates for cybersecurity awareness.

We encourage all companies, large or small, to evaluate how they are incorporating security best practices into their business. Cybercrime has increased dramatically, so the question is: What is the single biggest initiative your company can take to reduce the risk of data breaches? Employee Training.

90% of cybersecurity breaches are primarily caused by human error. Employee Education is often overlooked and undervalued, but it is, in fact, the single biggest investment you can make to protect your company from the onslaught of cyber-attacks. Our goal: make setting up and providing ongoing security awareness and phishing training easy for managers. And with no monthly fees!

Comprehensive Unlimited Security Awareness Training

Admins to CEO, every end user needs to be Cyber Aware.

This month let’s shine a light on Security Awareness. We can start discussions and decide on a few initiatives to implement.  CISA is highlighting key action steps that everyone should take:

  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication
  • Use Strong Passwords
  • Recognize and Report Phishing
  • Update Your Software

These are all great first steps! CISA explains that their campaign theme — “See Yourself in Cyber” — “demonstrates that while cybersecurity may seem like a complex subject, ultimately, it’s really all about people. This October will focus on the ‘people’ part of cybersecurity, providing information and resources to help educate CISA partners and the public and ensure all individuals and organizations make smart decisions whether on the job, at home, or at school – now and in the future. We encourage each of you to engage in this year’s efforts by creating your own cyber awareness campaigns and sharing this messaging with your peers.”

They go on to explain what Our Role should be, “When we say, ‘See Yourself in Cyber,’ we mean to see yourself in cyber no matter what role you play. As an individual or consumer, take basic steps to protect your online information and privacy.”

At Tech Eagles, we believe in empowering the end user. Comprehensive Unlimited Security Awareness Training is our small initiative to provide cybersecurity education to our communities.

As business leaders, we know that Security Awareness Training will drive employees to habits that reduce risk, so if currently do not have a plan to set up your employees to train in Security Best Practices and Phishing Awareness, please reach out to us if you would like to learn.

No matter what role you have in your organization, let us take the time this October during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to increase our own individual security practices.

Ask yourself; What can you do to prevent cybercrime? Can you “See Yourself in Cyber”?
